Jörg Vienken

Joerg Vienken graduated in Chemical Engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt and received a Doctoral degree in Biophysics & Bioengineering from the Technical University of Aachen, both in Germany. After completing his PhD thesis, he took the position of an Associate Professor at the Institute for Biotechnology of the University of Würzburg till 1985. He then switched to the Medical Device Industry and worked for 11 years at AKZO NOBEL Membrana in Wuppertal as Director Clinical Research and Science Services. In 1995, Vienken moved to Fresenius Medical Care in Bad Homburg, Germany and served as Vice President BioSciences until his retirement in 2013. He then joined Nephro-Solutions AG in Hamburg as one of its Board members in October 2013. Joerg Vienken is Past President of the International Federation of Artificial Organs (IFAO), the umbrella society of the continental societies from Europe (ESAO), the USA (ASAIO) and Japan (JASO). He is also Past President of the Association of German Biotech Companies (VBU- DECHEMA). He is a Distinguished Fellow of the European Renal Association – European Dialysis and Transplantation Association (ERA-EDTA). Joerg Vienken has authored or co-authored more than 300 publications / book chapters. Since more than 30 years, he teaches Biomaterials & Artificial Organs, as well as Medical Device Technology at several German and European Universities.
